WHAT IS UNETHICAL MARKETING???
Unethical marketing demonstrate wrong perception about a particular products or a services. It demolishes the reputation of a company as well as products and services, and sometimes leads to gigantic problems. This explains why every company should avoid them like a plague.

The first step of avoiding unethical marketing practices is to identify those practices. Many businessmen, marketing executive and sales personnel have engaged in unethical marketing practices just because they have no idea because of those practices what is going to be happened after a period of time.

Unethical Marketing Practices
1. Making false, exaggerated, or unverified claims
The company or business is desperate to sell their product anyhow. Sometimes they use false statement, unverified claims to make a sell. This is common in the weight loss industry, where marketers convince potential consumers (specially women) that this product can help them to reduce weight within two weeks without exercise or dieting.
For Example : marketing of Green Tea

2. Concealing dark sides or side effects of products or services
This unethical marketing practice is very normal in natural remedies industry. They spread that their products have no side effect though they are made from natural elements.  But in reality, most of these products have been found to have side effects, especially when products are being used over a long period. In fact, there’s no product without side effects it’s just that the side effects might be unknown.

Example: Patanjali Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera's side effect like skin irritation

3. Using fear tactics:   This is another common unethical marketing practice among salespersons. You will hear them saying something like: “the price has been set only for a limited period of time. If you don’t buy it now you may have to pay 5 times more than the actual price. The price will rise within 5 days”. The only motive behind those statements is to divert the potential consumers mind to make a immediate decision on the spot. And that’s wrong for sure.

4. Distortion of facts to mislead or confuse potential buyers
This is another most common unethical marketing practice. A typical example is when a food processing company claims that its products are sugar-free or calorie-free but when they are tested in laboratory they are found a plenty amount of sugar or calories. Such a company is only trying to mislead potential buyers, since they are unwilling to buy the products if it is known that they contain sugar or calories.

5. Using women for attracting more consumers
The rate of utilizing women in different branded stuffs to promote is rising alarmingly. If you intentionally observe TV, billboard, and magazine ads, you will find a very common thing amongst all of the promotion ads. The common thing you may have noticed that almost 80-90% of the promotion ads are having women as a promotional element.

While it might be rational to use women and models in adverts for beauty products and cosmetics. But having half-naked models in adverts for stuff, smart phones, machinery, and other products not related to women are both irrational and unethical.

While it might be intuitive to use models in adverts for beauty products and cosmetics, having half-naked models in adverts for generators, heavy machinery, smartphones, and other products not strongly related to women are both nonsensical and unethical.
So, Whether you are playing the salesman role for your own business or you are hired to market an employer’s products or services, you need to understand the thin line between ethical and unethical marketing practices and come forward to put an end on unethical marketing strategies.

  4. The utmost reason most people attempt unethical marketting strategies is because they are lazy or lack patience. Unethical marketting may be profitable in the short term but the long term result is devastating.

  6. Being an unethical marker is the wrost thing you can do. Not only do you completely destroy any sort of name you've built for yourself, but you actually start to build a following of people who will spread negative publicity about you. Being an etichal marketer takes longer, but you'll be much more successful in the long run!
